vr simulation - cpr training

The immersion in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an unprecedented experience worldwide. Sudden cardiac arrests kills more than 17 million people a year, but the use of the automatic external defibrillator (AED) for cardiopulmonary resuscitation doubles the survival rate and reduces the risk of harm to the patient.

In the simulation it is possible to enter the story and experience a real emergency case, where our virtual character suffers a cardiorespiratory arrest, and needs immediate help. The simulation is an integration between a CPR manikin that connects with the virtual reality through software and sensors designed exclusively for this experience. The rescuer can apply the frequency of the respiratory massage and see in real time the patient's reaction through the integration with the VR and also the feedback from the EAD. The idea of this type of simulation is to create greater empathy between the rescuer and the patient, so that the training is more humanized and efficient.

characterization

Our character is a high performance athlete in a training center. In this type of activity is where the sensation of sudden arrest is most perceived. So, our character was thought to be a middle-aged man with a healthy appearance and does not present, at first sight, any indicator that can help predict cardiac arrest. Thus, the emergency sensation is more pronounced and the reaction of the rescuer has to be even more immediate.

Feedback and sensor system

Through sensors installed in the CPR manikin, the feedback of the respiratory massage is immediate. It is also possible to monitor the feedback of the EAD, all integrated.

1 Sensors placed on the manikin recognize the rhythm and intensity of compressions;

2 Communication between the sensors and the VR brings the information;

3 Virtual EAD guides by audio the compression rhythm;

4 The real feedback happens in the virtual world.

possibilities

The VR simulation system of cardiorespiratory arrest can be used as a complement and maintenance of the training "in loco" and is totally customizable, from the type of AED device that the company uses to the scene situation that best fits the company reality. Simulations inside airplanes, or on public roads, or even in the company's own environment are possible in VR. Every action and also the type of character can be changed quickly, because we use the same motion capture system used in Game Design.
